10 years after the financial crisis: What did we learn - if anything?
About the event
The financial crisis started ten years ago. It was followed by the worst recession since the Great Depression. In this talk, we will (very) briefly remind ourselves what actually happened in the run-up to the crisis, after which we turn to the main topic of the talk:
What were the consequences of the crisis, what did we learn - if anything – and where are we today?
Topics of the talk will include what has been done to strengthen the financial system to prevent a similar crisis, what have been the consequences of the crisis, how did the economy respond, and how did the political system respond? We will also look at the larger risks facing the financial system today, i.e. are we close to a new financial crisis, and how could the next crisis unfold?
The main part of the talk will be focused on Denmark. We will look at:
- What caused the crisis (brief)?
- What has been the cost of the crisis?
- What has been done to prevent a similar crisis?
- What are the biggest risks today?
